Die Doofen
Musical comedy duo Olli Dittrich and Wigald Boning formed Die Doofen, or "The Stupids," for the late-night German TV show RTL Samstag Nacht. Their nonsensical lyrics and quirky delivery won them a devoted viewer following, which eventually led the duo to the studio to record a proper album. The resulting Lieder, Die Die Welt Nicht Braucht proved to be one Germany's most popular comedy recordings. Its follow-up, Melodien für Melonen, though strong, proved to be a sales disappointment, and the pair went their separate ways in the late '90s.
