Zofia Kilanowicz
Zofia Kilanowicz (pronounced Sofia Kilanóvich) is an important Polish soprano. She won one of Poland's leading music awards, First Prize at the Karol Szymanowski Competition of 1898, and also won the Elly Ameling Prize at the 's Hertogenbosch Competition of the Netherlands.
She has primarily worked as a concert singer throughout Europe, and has appeared at New York's Carnegie Hall with conductor Charles Dutoit, and was chosen by the great Polish composer Witold Lutoslawski to sing his vocal music under his direction.
Among her notable recordings are the highly acclaimed Naxos Records release of Henryk Gorecki's Symphony No. 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) and Szymanowski songs on a Telarc recording.
