Vis-A-Vis
Formed in Ghana, West Africa in the mid-1970s. Vis-A-Vis was a highlife group comprised of lead vocalist Isaac Yeboah, bassist Slim Yaw Manu, and vocalist Anthony Yeboah. Originally members of highlife group the Starlite, the three members left that group after disagreements with the band’s leader and immediately formed their own group Aprukusu. Bringing in a few more group members, they soon changed their name to Vis-A-Vis. They released their first album, Week End with Vis-A-Vis, in 1975. Further albums included The Best of Vis-A-Vis in Congo Style (1976), Di Wo Ho Ni (1977), and Obi Agye Me Dofo (1977), which is one of their most acclaimed releases. They closed out the ’70s with the album Kalabule (1979). There was little activity at the beginning of the 1980s and the band split in 1982. The group’s catalog has been reappraised and reissued since the group’s dissolution and they are now considered one of the finest Ghanaian highlife bands of the era.
