Prophet Omega
Before he was Prophet Omega, Joe Magistro was the drummer in the '90s band Darlahood and a frequently requested musician in the New York rock scene. At home in his Brooklyn apartment, however, he began experimenting with samples and loops and his own singing voice, eventually gathering up enough courage to play what he created for his friends. One of them, a DJ, liked the music enough to spin it at a club he worked at, where it was then heard by a member of the production team for Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, who put his song, "An Area Big Enough to Do It In," on the series' 2004 soundtrack. This led to a signing with Capitol Records, who released Prophet Omega's debut, The Natural World, on their Astralwerks imprint in 2006. The album, which was recorded both in Brooklyn and in a cabin in the Catskills, featured Magistro on nearly all the instruments -- both live and electronic -- and vocals.
