Marie King

Born Marie Farley on January 23, 1936 in Navan, Ontario, Marie King, nicknamed the Queen of Country, is a Canadian country singer. She married Bob King on December 23, 1957, who accompanied her throughout her career as guitarist, musical director and writer of most of her songs. She released her first album in 1965, Quand le Soleil Dit Bonjour Aux Montagnes , which sold over 100,000 copies. In 1969, she released the album Allo Mon P'tit Bobby , written in honor of her son, which sold over 300,000 copies. That same year, she won a gold disc for the number of records sold in Canada, then the Méritas for best western performer at the Festival du disque du Québec. In 1972, in the company of singer Michèle Richard, she toured 42 cities in 42 days. In 1978, their daughter, Carole Ann, joined her and her husband to form the group La Famille King until 1984, when she embarked on her own career. In 1988, she released the vinyl Merci Mes Amis , just before the death of her husband Bob King in 1989. In 1993, mother and daughter reunited for the album Marie & Carole King . In 2017, her daughter Carole Ann King launched a biography of her mother entitled L'Autre Côté de la Montagne.
