Jean Claude

Born on February 23, 1946 in Rose-Hill, Mauritius, Jean-Claude Gaspard was immersed in music from an early age, alongside his grandmother and his father, Roger Augustin, a famous Mauritian musician. His musical career took off in 1966, before really taking off in 1968 with his first hit: "Wachi Wala". The singer followed this up with "Mariage en essai", which established him as one of the leading Sega musicians of his generation. He racked up a series of albums, including the acclaimed Pilé Pilé (1984), Fiesta mauricien (1986) and Ségas de l'île Maurice (1988). Gradually, his career and productivity brought him recognition all around the Indian Ocean, as well as the status of the most prolific artist in the sector. With emblematic tracks such as "Dhoby de classe " (1988), Jean-Claude Gaspard gained recognition from important figures, including the Certificate and Badge of Honour from Queen Elizabeth II in 1990. He performs abroad, notably in Germany, Australia and France, territories that are discovering the musical tradition of Mauritius.
