$tupid Young
American rapper $tupid Young became a force on the California rap scene with his own take on the classic gangsta rap sound that had originated from the streets of Los Angeles. Lyrically influenced by his own life, $tupid Young dropped several successful mixtapes including 2018's True Story and 2020's B.A.R.S., Vol. 1.
Born and raised in Long Beach, California, $tupid Young grew up in the tightknit Cambodian community, and after a troubled start with spells in local gangs, he found his calling in rap at a young age, developing his own persona throughout his teenage years. Taking inspiration from the gangsta sound pioneered by the likes of N.W.A, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg, $tupid Young embraced the P-funk of West Coast rap and melded it with trap, creating his own unique hybrid sound. One of One, the debut mixtape from Young, dropped in 2018, and already saw him collaborating with the likes of Lil Durk and Mozzy, following it up with True Story and its sequel, True Story II in 2019. The following year saw the prolific rapper team up with MBNel on Yellow Tape as well as dropping B.A.R.S., Vol. 1, a mixtape that saw him celebrating the diversity of Asian-American hip-hop.
