Tagne

Born on July 13, 1997 to a Cameroonian father and a Moroccan mother, Tagne, whose real name is Ilies Tagne, grew up in Casablanca, Morocco. From an early age, he was fascinated by 50 Cent and the film Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Rap was an outlet, and by 2010 he was writing his first rhymes, culminating in a track, "Te7te Men 9obbia", released in 2013. After this early start, Tagne went on to join the new Moroccan rap scene. He released his first mixtape, Frakh f'Jahenam in 2014, then founded the group XACTO with Madd and joined the Wa Drari collective, led by Shayfeen, another Casablanca rap outfit. With their EP Extase, the duo built their notoriety and broke new ground with their dark trap sound, in the image of the hit "Amigo". In 2017, Tagne gave a new impetus to his career and took a more personal turn by leaving the Wa Drari and XACTO collective. He wanted to experiment with new sounds, still in rap, but incorporating his passion for raï singers Cheb Hasni and Cheb Bilal as well as Nigerian singers Burna Boy and Wizkid. Moroccan Dream, his first mixtape released in 2020, and a counterpoint to the American dream, aims to shine the spotlight on Moroccan rap and motivate young up-and-comers to perform. He signs with Believe, creates Tanaprod and teams up with Hakeem Erajai. At a time when the Moroccan music industry is still in its infancy, Tagne intends to be a future pillar. In 2021, he co-wrote the album Jackpot with artist Stormy, which developed a neat trap sound, and in 2023, he appeared on the hazy trap of France's TripleGo on their album Gibraltar.
