Pibes Chorros
Pibes Chorros is a cumbia band from Berazategui, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The group was formed in 2001 by keyboardist and singer Ariel Salinas (also known as “El Traidor”), after the dissolution of his previous group Los Chudas. Pibes Chorros played a style of music known as “cumbia villera,” which combined the cumbia music genre with a more aggressive and in-your-face approach. They capitalized on the popularity of tropical music styles in Argentina and quickly became known for their bold and transgressive lyrics, often touching on lyrical topics such as drugs, sex, music, and crime. They were signed by record label Magenta Discos and recorded their debut studio album Arriba las Manos (2001). This album was a huge success within the cumbia music scene, particularly the single “Andrea.” This was followed by Solo Le Pido a Dios in 2002. Their popularity was unheard of for cumbia villera artists, appearing on various television shows. In 2003, they released Criando Cuervos, a massively successful album containing songs such as “Que Calor,” “Carolina,” and "Una Copa Más." In 2005, Ariel Salinas left the group, and he was replaced by new singer Victor Loizatti, who recorded with the band right up until his death in 2021. Other notable releases include El Poder de la Guadaña (2004), Perdonalos, No Saben Lo Que Hacen (2007), and Ojo x Ojo (2013).
