Jan & Kjeld
Publicized as ‘The Kids From Copenhagen’, these Danish teenagers had only big hit after signing with Germany’s Ariola label in 1959. Composed by Charles Niessen, the main theme from his Kein Mann Zum Hieraten movie soundtrack did well as a single in central Europe before the duo re-made it as ‘Banjo Boy’ with English lyrics by New Yorker Buddy Kaye. As such, it spread itself thinly enough to sell a purported million by 1962 without rising above number 36 in the UK and number 58 in the US charts.
