Isla Bonita

Formed in 1988 under the leadership of renowned trombonist and producer Carlos “Cuto” Soto, Isla Bonita emerged as a distinctive force in Puerto Rican salsa, blending rich trombone arrangements with romantic and danceable compositions. Soto, who had collaborated with legends like Celia Cruz, Frankie Ruiz, and Jerry Rivera, assembled a talented lineup featuring vocalists Wilfredo “Quitín” Santiago, Elvira Franco, and Gary Carrión for their self-titled debut album, Isla Bonita (1988), which produced hits like “Insaciable,” “Esperándote,” and “Por Qué Te Entregas.” The group continued their momentum with Sueños del Caribe (1989), showcasing tracks such as “Amor Marcado,” “Pupilas de Gato,” and “Entre Sábanas,” followed by A La Conquista (1990), featuring standout songs like “Haz Una Hoguera” and “Adiós Amor.” After a two-decade hiatus, Isla Bonita reunited in 2012, reigniting their presence with a sold-out performance in Cali, Colombia, and captivating both longtime fans and new audiences across Latin America and the U.S.
