Funky Derrick
The alias of Frenchman Mederic Nebinger, Funky Derrick specializes in disco-sampled retrodelia with nods to commercial house. As a child, Nebinger played piano and listened to disco as well as Tangerine Dream. He studied law and worked in advertising, though after an introduction to the music of DJ Pierre, he bought a sampler and began producing. He recorded sporadically during the '90s, including singles for the French labels Rave Age and Deja Vous, before being signed to Twisted/MCA under his Funky Derrick guise. Debut album Boogie Dawn appeared in 1999.
