Askin Nur Yengi
Born in Istanbul on July 3, 1970, Aşkın Nur Yengi is a classically trained Turkish singer and actor who rose to fame during the '90s. After completing a music degree in cello at the State Conservatory of Turkish Music, she secured employed as a vocalist with leading Turkish pop singer Sezen Aksu. She began making a name for herself in the late '80s, winning first prize at the Kuşadası Altın Güvercin Song Contest in 1987 with "Yeniden," at the Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festival in 1998 with "Portakal Çiçeği," and at the Çeşme Music Festival in 1989 with "Artık Hiç Ağlama." Her recording career began in 1990 with the release of debut album Sevgiliye, which featured four compositions of Greek origin, a French-inspired track and five self-penned compositions. The LP sold two million copies that year and was followed by Hesap Ver in 1991, also known as Aşkın Nur Yengi II, which was produced by Sezen Aksu and featured compositions from Uzay Heparı. Aşkın Nur Yengi went on to release another four albums during the '90s, including 1999's Aşk Kazası, her sixth studio album containing four cover songs. She has appeared in a number of several films, television shows, and plays over the years, including 2002 series Bayanlar Baylar and 2003 movie Ömerçip. An EP for Sony Music/Columbia Records, Aşk'tan Olsa Gerek, arrived in 2016 and a comeback single "Baba," emerged in 2020.
