Minimalista y fría en su superficie, la música de The Cure adoptaría aspecto de buhardilla de Alicia de Lewis Carroll, tanto por su imaginario como por la construcción de sus melodías. Pero este primer disco, extremadamente despojado y de hechuras post-punk, aún no anunciaba la oscura trilogía que vendría a continuación (constituida por los esenciales Seventeen Seconds, Faith y Pornography). Con la combinación de sonoridades metálicas, saturadas e inquietantes, Robert Smith pasaba revista a sus fobias y angustias de forma inusualmente atípica en Three Imaginary Boys, publicado en mayo de 1979. Y atípica es también 10:15 Saturday Night, genial pop song, desarticulada y angulosa, a base de unas improbables y afiladas guitarras, o esa extravagante versión del Foxy Lady de Hendrix, de quien Smith siempre se ha declarado fan absoluto.
