Teach In

The Dutch winners of the 1975 Eurovision Song Contest, Teach In were formed in 1969 in Enschede around a line-up of twin vocalists Hilda Felix and Henk Westendorp, guitarist John Snuverink, bassist Frans Schaddelee, keyboard player Koos Versteeg, and drummer Rudi Nijhuis. Never boasting a stable line-up, by 1972 only Versteeg and Nijhuis remained on board, to be joined by vocalists Gettie Kaspers and Ard Weenink, guitarist Chris de Wolde, and bassist John Gaasbeek. Growing popularity in the Netherlands saw the band score three Top 20 hits during 1974, before entering the Eurovision Song Contest. Their winning song, "Ding A Dong," scored across Europe, and the band spent much of the next two years on the road. Further line-up changes, however, continued to scar the band, including the departure of Kaspers for a solo career and, by 1977, the group lined up as Versteeg, Nijhuis, de Wolde, Nick de Vos (bass), and singers Betty Vermeulen and Marianne Wolsink. The following year, Teach In broke up. Nijhuis and Versteeg re-formed the band in 1980, and a handful of hits followed before the band shattered once again. The original line-up then reconvened in 1997.
