Silent Sanctuary

Longtime leaders of the Philippines' Pinoy rock community, Silent Sanctuary formed in 2001 in Metro Manila, Philippines. Frontman Norman Dellosa, bassist Paolo Legaspi, and drummer Allen Calixto co-founded the band, with cellist Anjo Inacay completing the lineup several months later. Inca's cello proved to be a key ingredient in the band's sound, adding a classical emphasis to Silent Sanctuary's alternative rock foundation. Ellipsis of the Mind, the band's debut album, was released in 2004 and introduced the group's unique hybrid of influences. It also marked Dellosa's sole release with the band, with singer Sarkie Sarangay joining Silent Sanctuary's lineup after his departure. Fuchsiang Pag-ibig, the band's second album and first major-label release, arrived in 2007, featuring the successful single "Rebound." Now working with Universal Records, the band returned in 2009 with another full-length album, Mistaken for Granted. 2013's Monodramatic and 2015's Langit Luha continued to build the band's audience in the Philippines, where Silent Sanctuary was named "Favorite Group" at the Myx Music Awards in both 2015 and 2016. Although the group's momentum slowed during the late 2010s, Silent Sanctuary remained an icon of Filipino music, with the band's material often appearing on national compilation albums like Super OPM Hits.
