Samuel
Samuel Umberto Romano (March 7, 1972), known mononymously as Samuel, is an Italian singer-songwriter who rose to prominence as the frontman for the alternative rock band Subsonica in the mid-90s. Hailing from Turin, Samuel began performing with the Hisonz Street band and then joined Amici di Roland, where he met keyboardist Boosta. After a brief stint in the group, Samuel and Boosta teamed up with Guitarist Max Casacci, drummer Ninja, and bass player Pierfunk, and formed Subsonica in 1996. During the late 90s and early aughts, the band became one of the leading exponents of Italian rock, making an appearance in the 2000 Sanremo Music Festival and releasing a string of chart-topping albums such as Amorematico (2002), Terrestre (2005), and Una Nave In Una Foresta (2014). Preceded by the singles “La Risposta,” “Rabbia,” and “Vedrai,” which was premiered at Sanremo, his studio debut Il Codice della Bellezza (2017) climbed to Number 2 in Italy and was followed by a second album titled Briganta Bianca in 2021. “Cinema,” the third single from his sophomore effort, featured singer Francesca Michielin and entered the Italian charts at Number 94.
