Moon Byul

The main rapper for South Korean girl group Mamamoo, Moonbyul brought a deeper-voiced edge to the K-pop quartet across their wide-ranging discography. In 2018, the musician made her solo debut with the single album Selfish, and she released her debut mini-album, Dark Side of the Moon, in February 2020. Born in South Korea's Gyeonggi Province, Moon Byul-yi started her musical career at Paekche Institute of the Arts, debuting as part of K-pop quartet Mamamoo in 2014. As the group's main rapper, the now-mononymous Moonbyul provided the bulk of the group's rap content, playing a foil to the softer melodies of Solar and Whee In, and the half-singing, half-rapping performances of Hwa Sa. Together, Mamamoo enjoyed a dominant career over the mid- to late 2010s, releasing number one- and number two-charting Korean albums (Reality in Black and Melting, respectively), 11 mini-albums including the chart-topping Yellow Flower and White Wind, and a chain of Top Ten hit singles. Along with fellow Mamamoo members Whee In and Solar, Moonbyul used 2018 to branch into solo work, releasing her debut single album, Selfish, that May. Her first mini-album, the wide-ranging Dark Side of the Moon, arrived in February 2020 and was led by the single "Eclipse." Continuing this versatile presence into the 2020s, she returned in 2022 with second mini-album 6equence.
