Loose Fit
Presumably named after the Happy Mondays song of the same title, Loose Fit was a collaboration between Johnny Smith and Daniel Willis, two longtime best friends and producers from -- where else? -- Manchester, England, also the home of their most evident inspirations. The duo released its first single, “Chug,” in March 2010 on the Join the Dots label. A midtempo, cosmically percolating groove built on a rubbery bassline, layers of synthesizer wash, and distant rhythm guitar, the track -- easily slotted into a set featuring contemporaries like Windsurf, Hatchback, and Studio -- was accompanied with remixes from U.K. dance veteran Greg Wilson and the Electric Press' Tom Taylor.
