Joël Denis
Born Denis Laplante in Montreal, Canada, on October 11, 1936, Joël Denis is a pop singer and TV host from Quebec. He released his first album in 1961, La Plume Magique en Paradis , with his sister Johanne Laplante, featuring children's songs such as "Au clair de la lune", "Sur le pont d'Avignon" and "Savez-vous planter des choux ". With Pierre Lalonde, he hosted the Télé-Métropole program Jeunesse D'Aujourd' hui from 1962 to 1965. At the same time, his radio success began with the songs "L'école est finie" (1963),"Hey! hey! lolita" (1965) and "Le yaya " (1965). In 1965, he also began a career as an actor, starring in Denis Héroux's film Pas de vacances pour les idoles . At the end of May 1969, he spent 45 minutes with John Lennon and Yoko Ono at their peace rally in a suite at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal. He was lucky enough to be among the voices recorded at the event, for the song "Give Peace a Chance". He continued his singing career in the 70s with several songs that reached the Quebec radio charts: "C'ta pas encore fait" (1971), "Si j'avais une jambe de bois" (1971), and "Courrier du coeur " (1972). From 1972 to 1976, he hosted Les Tannants with Pierre Marcotte and Shirley Théroux on the TVA network in Quebec. He then took part in several Quebec TV series, including La Petite Patrie (1974-1976), Les Moineau Et les Pinson (1982-1986) and Scoop (1992-1995). He returned to music in the '80s, with the song "Respecte donc l'opinion de ton voisin" (1981) and a duet with Shirley Théroux, Le Clap Clap (1986), on a comedy album. In the 90s and 2000s, he was active on stage and at several Quebec TV galas. He will be back on record at the end of 2021, with an original album of songs entitled Ne T'En Fais Pas Avec la Vie.
