Jessica Baio

A California native, Jessica Baio has built a fan base with tuneful, modern pop songs about love and loss, and she has a steady side hustle as an all-around content creator, recording everything from pranks to dates with her husband on various forms of social media. Born in Sacramento in 2002, Baio's journey mirrored the typical interests of aspiring Gen Z musicians: studying guitar and piano, auditioning for American Idol and The Voice, and uploading covers of big-voiced pop personalities -- Demi Lovato, Jessie J and Miley Cyrus, the latter of which earned her an early viral following -- to her social feeds. Unlike many content creators, Baio took an unusual step after high school, marrying classmate and fellow media personality Sam Jose and settling down in Utah. After releasing several EPs to little fanfare in the late 2010s, Baio hit the reset button in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to write songs as confessional and open as her vlogs and short-form videos. By 2022, this gambit started to pay off: singles like “gone” and “at least,” which wove relatable tales of heartbreak and anxiety, were streamed in the millions. 2023 saw the release of Baio's first EP, Catalyst, noted for the songs “Trust Issues” and “Someday,” the latter a moving dedication to her husband’s father, who’d recently passed away after a battle with ALS. Catalyst was followed a year later with her second EP, petals, which featured standout tracks “he loves me, he loves me not,” “best friends with your girlfriend,” and “bad tattoo.”
