Jacob Whitesides

Singer/songwriter Jacob Whitesides is an earnest performer, known for his romantic slow-burn pop anthems and heartfelt ballads. Whitesides, who initially gained attention for his online viral covers, built upon a 2012 appearance on The X Factor with a series of popular EPs. His 2014 release, 3AM: The EP, cracked the Top 30 of the Billboard 200, paving the way for his 2016 full-length Why. Whitesides has continued to mature, dipping into synthy electronic textures and R&B-influenced hooks on his 2019 EP Colors. Born in 1997, Whitesides grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee where he became interested in music around age 11 while attending a bluegrass festival. He picked up the guitar and by his teens was already garnering a following, playing shows around Knoxville and posting cover songs online. He gained even more national attention after making it through the first cut on the second season of The X Factor in 2012. Buoyed by the experience, Whitesides returned in 2014 with his debut short-player, 3 AM: The EP, which featured cover songs by John Legend, Plain White T's, John Mayer, and others. It landed at number 26 on the Billboard 200 and number two on the Independent Albums chart. The following year, he delivered two more EPs with A Piece of Me and Faces on Film, both of which showcased his original songs. In 2016, Whitesides released his full-length debut, the David Spencer-produced Why. The album topped several digital charts and reached number 25 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart. Following a tour alongside Alec Joseph, Jason Castro, and Taylor Grey, Whitesides released his fourth EP, Colors. Issued on his own JMW Music label, the album found him further expanding his sound with subtle electronic-flourishes. An equally sophisticated companion EP, Winter Hurts, arrived in May 2020.
