Dawn McCarthy
American singer/songwriter Dawn McCarthy is one of the founding members of the roving acid folk collective Faun Fables and has worked extensively with Bonnie "Prince" Billy as well as recording and performing on her own. McCarthy grew up in Spokane, Washington in a large musical family, studying music from different parts of the world on her own in the local library as well as studying musical theater and writing her own songs. She traveled extensively before landing in the Bay Area and starting Faun Fables with Nils Frykdahl in 1998. After a few years of self-promoted tours and two self-released albums, Faun Fables signed with Drag City in 2003. This would be the start of a long relationship with the label, and many albums on the imprint. McCarthy was prominently featured on Bonnie "Prince" Billy's 2006 album The Letting Go as well as the rough demo recordings the pair made together that were released as 2007's Wai Notes. The two reunited again in 2013 for What the Brothers Sang, a loving tribute to the harmony of the Everly Brothers.
