Charli D'Amelio

Charli D'Amelio amassed a top-ranked social media following with her dance videos before branching into TV, film, and pop music. Launched in 2019, her popular video account led to high-profile celebrity encounters -- including stage time with JLo -- as well as multiple reality series leading up to her debut single, 2022's "if you ask me to." That year she also finished first on reality juggernaut Dancing with the Stars. Charli Grace D'Amelio was born in Norwalk, Connecticut in May 2004 to former state senate candidate Marc D'Amelio and Heidi D'Amelio, a photographer and former model. Charli began dancing as a toddler and danced competitively for about ten years before launching her own social media video account in mid-2019. Before the end of the year, she was enlisted to voice Tinker in the animated film StarDog and TurboCat, and Bebe Rexha invited D'Amelio to join her on-stage at Barclays Center in New York City during an opening slot for Jonas Brothers. Dance videos including one capturing the latter soon garnered D'Amelio over 50 million followers, making her the most popular account on the platform by early the next year, around the time she performed alongside Jennifer Lopez at the Super Bowl. In the meantime, Charli and her older sister, Dixie, also a popular social media personality, started working together on endeavors including a podcast, a makeup line, and a nail-polish collection. Still 16 years old, Charli was nominated for a People's Choice Award in the category of Social Star that November, and Abrams Books published the book Essentially Charli: The Ultimate Guide to Keeping It Real in December 2020. In 2021, D'Amelio's own docu-series, The D'Amelio Show, premiered on Hulu. It featured her whole family. She and her sister later starred in the Snap Original competition series Charlie vs. Dixie, with the cash prize going to charity. The next year, Charli signed on for the supernatural thriller Home School, with the D'Amelio family serving as executive producers, and Charli and Heidi competed separately on the 31st season of Dancing with the Stars -- the first family members to compete against each other on the show. As the season unfolded, Charli D'Amelio made her recording debut with the earnest pop single "if you ask me to" (DAM FAM Records). A month later, she and partner Mark Ballas were crowned Dancing with the Stars champions after receiving perfect scores from the judges.
