Brimstone Coven
Retrofitted stoner metal/doom metal quartet Brimstone Coven were formed by guitarist/songwriter Corey Roth in early 2011. Roth wrote some early songs, deeply steeped with the influence of metal gods like Black Sabbath and Pentagram, and assembled the coven around himself with musicians from Wheeling, West Virginia's metal scene. Roth was joined by bassist Andrew D'Cagna, drummer Justin Wood, and vocalist John Williams, and they set about creating a heavy, backwards-looking metal sound. The band's music first appeared with a self-released EP in 2012, followed by a second self-released album, II, in 2013. While they worked on the writing and recording of third album III, Brimstone Coven were picked up by long-running heavy music label Metal Blade Records, who released a self-titled album in 2014 that collected both their EP and II in remastered form, with new artwork.
