Banda Toro
Known best for their 1993 track "La Noche Que Murio Chicago" – a cover of Paper Lace's 1974 hit "The Night Chicago Died" – Banda Toro were at the forefront of Mexico's la quebradita movement in the 1990s. Founded in L.A., California in 1992 by Zacatecas-born Saúl Esqueda, the group released their debut self-titled album in 1993. Commonly associated with the synthesizer-heavy technobanda sound, which saw musicians replace some or all of the horns with electric instruments, like many other technobanda groups they often recorded covers of songs in English. In 1994, Banda Toro released their second album, featuring the popular title track; a remake of The Melodians' 1970 reggae megahit, "Rivers of Babylon". They also notched up a series of other singles, including "La Ruca No Era Ruca" (1994) "Anoche Me Enamore" (1994) and 1998's Frank Sinatra cover, "A Mi Manera" ("My Way"). Banda Toro got back together in 2018 to record new material, resulting in the release of 2020's 2 Bandas Musicales.
