Ana Carla Maza

Born in Havana, Cuba in 1995, Ana Cala Maza is jazz cellist, composer, and singer. Born into a musical family – her mother is Cuban guitarist Mirza Sierra and her father is Chilean pianist Carlos Maza – she began studying the piano at the age of five under the guidance of pianist Chucho Valdés’ sister Miriam Valdés. She began learning the cello at the age of eight and made her first stage appearance two years later. In 2010, she appeared on the album En Familia in a trio alongside her parents. Inspired by bossa nova, pop, Cuban habanera, Latin rhythms, classical music, and jazz, Ana Cala Maza incorporated French chanson into her music when she moved to France in 2012 to further her musical studies. After attending the Conservatoire national supérieur de Paris, she released her debut album Solo Acoustic Concert in 2016 and followed it with the Alma EP in 2018. Her next album, La Flor, was released in 2020 and was followed by a tour with Jean-Louis Aubert. Recorded in one session in Barcelona, her next studio album, Bahía (2022), reached Number 36 on the French Jazz Albums chart and included the song “A Tomar Café.”
