Alcatraz

A duo of Jean Phillippe Aviance and Victor Imbres from Washington, DC, USA, Alcatraz’s debut single, ‘Give Me Luv’, was released on Deep Dish’s Yoshitoshi label at the beginning of 1995. It was the duo’s first collaboration, but slowly built journalistic and club support until at the end of 1995 a major dance label bidding war erupted. A&M Records eventually secured the rights to release the single at the beginning of 1996. A minimal, hard house track, it followed neatly in the tradition established by artists such as Josh Wink. The duo had first met when Imbres was engineering a remix of Deep Dish’s ‘Satori’ by Aviance. Though it was not envisaged as a permanent collaboration, the resultant exposure gained by ‘Give Me Luv’ on the London club scene encouraged them to work together on new material for A&M. They also remixed BT’s ‘Loving You More’ UK hit.
