On Souch', the core makeup of the classic Malavoi is still intact. The strings are vibrant, contrasting percussion bubbles underneath it all, the piano playing of Paulo Rosine is exceptional, and Pipo Gertrude and Tony Chasseur's voices are as smooth as ever. However, with the exception of "Tout' Je Pa Je" and "Retour d'Exil," the song material is not as sensually strong and compelling as on some of their other albums. For loyal fans of Malavoi, this is an album to complete their collections. For those unfamiliar with this legendary group from Martinique, there are better introductions to their unique style of Antillean swing and ballads.
