Grâce au financement participatif d’une campagne Kickstarter, les TLC ont pu enregistrer le chapitre final d’une aventure démarrée en 1991. Les 150.000 dollars désirés ont été atteints en moins de 48 heures, les New Kids On The Block (10.000 dollars) et Katy Perry (5.000 dollars) comptant parmi les prestigieux donateurs... Avec l’éponyme TLC, T-Boz et Chilli signent un cinquième opus fait pour combler leurs fans de la première heure, et surtout le premier véritable album depuis la disparition dans un accident de voiture de Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes en 2002… On retrouve ici ce subtil cocktail de R&B léger et de pop suave, ponctué de hip hop et de soul. Une recette fleurant bon les années 90 qui traverse plutôt bien le temps grâce notamment à une production assez contemporaine sans pour autant être opportuniste. Un clin d’œil G-funk ici (l’ensoleillé single 100% lover Way Back avec Snoop Dogg), une ballade folk là (Start A Fire) et du groove sensuel partout, TLC brandit son bouclier d’éclectisme avec un vrai charisme. © CM/Qobuz
