Chacun a beau avoir son disque préféré des Beatles, Revolver restera à jamais l’album charnière, l’un des plus influents (le plus influent ?) de toute l’histoire du rock. Ce septième enregistrement studio qui parait en août 1966 expédie définitivement aux oubliettes l’image des gentils et espiègles Fab Four de Liverpool pour en faire les architectes d’une révolution pop totale. Avec Revolver, le groupe épaulé par l’indispensable George Martin à la production se lance dans les expériences les plus folles au service de leurs chansons plus fascinantes que jamais. Ils inversent et bidouillent les bandes d’enregistrement, carburent aux substances prohibées qu’ils évoquent d’ailleurs dans leurs paroles, déballent une impressionnante quincaillerie d’instruments (clavecin, cor, sitar, orgue…) et musclent leurs textes, moins insouciants qu’à leurs débuts. Surtout, les Fab Four qui décident alors de ne plus se produire sur scène, utilisent le studio d’enregistrement comme un instrument à part entière pour ne pas dire un membre supplémentaire. Chacun a beau avoir son disque préféré des Beatles, Revolver restera à jamais l’album charnière, l’un des plus influents (le plus influent ?) de toute l’histoire du rock. Ce septième enregistrement studio qui parait en août 1966 expédie définitivement aux oubliettes l’image des gentils et espiègles Fab Four de Liverpool pour en faire les architectes d’une révolution pop totale. Avec Revolver, le groupe épaulé par l’indispensable George Martin à la production se lance dans les expériences les plus folles au service de leurs chansons plus fascinantes que jamais. Ils inversent et bidouillent les bandes d’enregistrement, carburent aux substances prohibées qu’ils évoquent d’ailleurs dans leurs paroles, déballent une impressionnante quincaillerie d’instruments (clavecin, cor, sitar, orgue…) et musclent leurs textes, moins insouciants qu’à leurs débuts.
