Avec les beats féroces, les rythmes remuants et les samples hallucinatoires de leur cinquième album, les Chemical Brothers prennent des directions aussi diverses qu’enthousiasmantes. Les gros beats incontournables sont particulièrement bien illustrés par "The Big Jump" et la constamment évolutive "Believe" (avec les chants de Kele Okereke de Bloc Party), mais la véritable surprise se niche dans la richesse des morceaux plus lents. "Hold Tight London" invite le joli chant d’Anna-Lynne Williams, et le long instrumental "Surface to Air" plane sur des lignes de beats envoûtantes. L'album opère ensuite un virage à 180 degrés avec "Galvanize", une tranche de techno-rap arabisante mâtinée de deep funk avec Q-Tip et "Left Right", une tirade anti-guerre cinglante dont les rimes sont assurées par Anwar Superstar. Push the Button ratisse très large, dévoilant de nouveaux univers sonores juste en-dessous de la surface des sentiers battus de l’électro.
