Dans l’édition originale, le disque était sorti avec juste la mention Portrait, sans le nom du groupe, ce qui en dit long sur sa popularité à ce moment-là. La version CD la plus récente, avec sa tonne de bonus, mérite aussi l’acquisition. Le premier titre, le très latino « In My Room », voit Scott Walker rejoindre définitivement la cour des grands en tant que chanteur, tandis qu’avec « Saturday’s Child » il devient un auteur et compositeur qui aurait facilement pu se fondre dans le staff du Brill Building. Le plus expérimenté, il a désormais pris l’ascendant au sein du trio. Il chante moins de reprises, excellant tout de même sur le « People Get Ready » de Curtis Mayfield (Impressions), et laisse à John, qui ne démérite pourtant pas, « Just For A Thrill » de Louis Armstrong et « Take It Like A Man » de Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller tandis que sur le classique « Summertime » et « No Sad Songs For Me », les frères ennemis duettisent, Reg Guest tissant avec ses arrangements d’orfèvre des tapis de velours pour leurs voix. L’impeccable réédition CD sortie en 1998 rend cet album encore plus recommandable, une dizaine de bonus tracks étant venue l’enrichir, avec notamment le mémorable single « The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore » et surtout « Deadlier Than The Male » et sa terrassante face B « Archangel », une sorte de « Bal des Laze » à l’anglaise.
