Sony ouvre une fois de plus sa malle aux trésors. Après The Basement Tapes Raw en 2014, suivie de The Cutting Edge l’année suivante, c’est aujourd'hui une nouvelle compilation extraordinaire de Dylan que le label propose : Live 1962-1966 - Rare Performances from the Copyright Collections. De rares performances du maître du folk, uniquement disponibles à ce jour sur des éditions très limitées, sont ici réunies dans un double disque de 29 pistes.


Cette édition spéciale du tour japonais est une véritable pépite ! Elle présente tout d'abord des enregistrements qui n'étaient à l’origine pas destinés au public, et qui de plus se compilent parfaitement. La promesse d'une écoute authentique est tenue. Second point fort : la période ciblée. Celles du Gerde's Folk City en 1962 où Dylan joue son premier concert, ses prestations mythiques en 1963 à l'hôtel de ville de New York et au Carnegie Hall, ainsi que son duo avec Joan Baez pour la Marche sur Washington le 28 août 1963 et ses tournées mondiales de 1965-1966. Le chanteur n'a pas chômé durant ces années de quête d'identité musicale. Proposant à l'écoute le folk nouveau et stylisé de ses débuts, ce Live 1962-1966 - Rare Performances from the Copyright Collections présente aussi sa première période rock. A partir de 1964, il ouvre une nouvelle voie. Sur ce second CD, la transition est évidente notamment avec ce live de mai 1966 au Capitol Theatre à Cardiff où il joue un folk-rock légendaire : I Don't Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met).
