Composer John Debney returns for the sequel to Bruce Almighty, and while the score for Evan Almighty reprises none of the themes from its predecessor, its structural and tonal similarities to earlier Debney efforts nevertheless disappoint. While "The Ark Theme" and "God's Theme" borrow heavily from the film's theological outlook, boasting epic string arrangements, booming choirs, and gospel harmonies, more earthbound fare like "Evan's Theme" sticks to the comedic basics, complete with the expressive piano that is now Debney's signature -- both sides vie to dominate the score, but neither is persuasive or memorable enough to win out.
