Laura Marling, dans le sillage du succès de ses deux premiers albums, Alas, I Cannot Swim (2008) et I Speak Because I Can (2010) n'a pas traîné pour écrire et enregistrer son troisième opus. S'inspirant d'artistes comme Joni Mitchell et fouillant du côté de la country, A Creature I Don't Know manifeste une nouvelle fois une maturité musicale dont le single "Sophia" est la meilleure illustration.
