Grady Guan

Chinese pop singer and songwriter Guan Zhe, also known as Grady Guan, was born on April 23, 1981, in Jilin City, Jilin, China. Coming from a working-class family, Guan Zhe developed a passion for music at a young age. Although he initially pursued different goals, he eventually decided to pursue a music career after getting a computer programming degree from Yanshan University in 2002. After a surge of talent shows emerged in China in 2005, Guan Zhe participated in A Type Show on Dragon TV in Shanghai, finishing first, followed by another triumph in the Young Singers Grand Prix, a competition held every two years by CCTV. In 2007, Guan Zhe started composing music for other Chinese singers, performing the theme song to Chinese drama Drive Your Melancholy in 2008, riding on his success with debut album, Carefully, released soon after. After his second album, Forever, emerged in 2009, Guan Zhe performed at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 opening ceremony with other finalists from the Super Boy Contest. In 2011, he joined the Chinese Million Star show in Taiwan to further his career, however his big break came in 2012 after he took part in The Voice of China, which boosted his popularity, seeing him release third album, Surrounding Story shortly after. He signed with Warner Music China in 2014, continuing to release a string of titles including Loneliness (2014), Enough (2017), and Mr. Hat (2018). In 2019, he collaborated on the track "Rain of Tears" for the Shanghai Opera Movie Thunderstorm, returning in 2022 with the album Serendipity, re-releasing his hit 2014 album Loneliness, the following year seeing the single "Miss You Tonight" reaching number 70 on the Malaysian charts.
