Although this LP has several photos of trumpeter Alvin Alcorn playing with a clarinetist and a bassist, his trio actually consists of his trumpet, guitarist Justin Adams, and bassist Frank Fields. Alcorn, best remembered as a New Orleans player who was with Kid Ory's band in the mid-'50s, on this set plays muted throughout (which sacrifices some of his individuality) and sticks to mellow tempos. His strolling trio probably fit in well at New Orleans restaurants during the era, but the resulting record is merely background music. It is pleasantly played, but the musicians rarely get beyond the melody and their album has no real surprises.
