Graced by one of the coolest album covers of all time, Sincerely Yours... is perhaps the ultimate soundtrack for everyone who wishes they belonged to the early-'60s martini-sipping and witty-repartee exchanging set. This is prime Robert Goulet in all his smoky-voiced, hyper-masculine glory. What other man in history could sound so thoroughly studley singing show tunes? Though he never approaches the sublime artistry of Frank Sinatra or even the pure showmanship of Sammy Davis, Jr., on this album Goulet fully realizes a complete visual and musical iconography all his own. If you ever wondered what the world was like when Bob Goulet was not considered cheesy, this album might give you a glimpse. Though it's not a great piece of art, in some ways Sincerely Yours is as much an important historical document as an album like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Whereas the Beatles both reflected and influenced the extraordinary times they lived in, Goulet defines the fantasy of the '60s everyman. In the world of Robert Goulet, what woman wouldn't want to surrender to a sensitive yet rugged, velour-clad mod Adonis? Though many would loathe admitting it, an episode of Friends may be a highly appropriate inclusion in a '90s time capsule. Like that show, Sincerely Yours represents its era, not by asking the important questions, but merely by reinforcing the familiar while simultaneously hinting at an ever-present romantic possibility.
