Danni Leigh's recording history reads like something out of Chicken Soup for the Unsinkable Soul. Since her debut in 1998, she has had to deal with three record deals, two managers, two bands, and the release of four singles that primarily tanked. Talk about perseverance. Leigh must have something to say. And from the sound of this ten-track collection, it sounds like she's saying "I'm a pure hillbilly honky-tonk girl." The Dwight Yoakam sound-alike even hired the producer who catapulted him to fame. The scaled-down songs are a far cry from the over-produced major-studio sound. Among the not to be missed are "He Used to Say That to Me," "A Far Cry From Here," and "Last Train to San Antone." There's something to be said for the smaller, independent labels that simply let artists be themselves, and it's easy to be convinced that this the best album of Leigh's tempestuous career.
