The Philly songwriter (slowly) prepares his comeback…

On the 25th September, 2015, Kurt Vile will release his new record b'lieve i'm goin down.... through perennial indie tastemaker Matador. It is set to be one of the autumn’s biggest guitar-based releases. While we wait in anticipation, the long-haired songwriter has just dropped Pretty Pimpin', the carefree first single from this, his sixth musical venture. Vile’s lyrics are often anecdotal; the Philadelphia-native imparting his own distinctive American disillusionment as, before him, Cohen, Dylan, Springsteen, and Dinosaur Jr.’s Jay Mascis have done so well. Kurt Vile steals from his forefathers, but, as with any great artist, the ensuing voice is entirely his own. Now 35 years of age, Vile is something of an indie institution; plunging his classic rock and folk influences into lo-fi and psychedelic whirlpools. His compositions have an air of timelessness about them – guitar lines elongate breezily towards everywhere and nowhere – and this is certainly the case on his new single… Parisians watch out - Kurt Vile will be bringing his raucous live show to the Pitchfork Festival, at la Grande Halle de la Villette, on the 30th October.
