Monty
A yé-yé idol and interpreter of the A.S. Saint-Étienne supporters' anthem, "Allez les Verts", singer Monty was born Jacques Bulostin in Chezal-Benoît (Cher) on February 18, 1943. A soccer fan from childhood, he won an inter-school tournament and hesitated to pursue a career in the sport, eventually opting for music. Trained as a pianist at the Conservatoire, he passed the Sacem exam and signed with the Barclay label in 1963. Under the name Monty, he recorded some 15 super singles and an album of the same name until 1969, including the hits "Il a des remords" (1963), "Un verre de whisky", "Ce n'est pas vrai", "Même si je suis fou " (1964) and "Bientôt les vacances " (1965). In 1964, after a six-month stint as Daniel Filipacchi's replacement on the Salut les copains radio show, Monty made his stage debut, appearing at the Olympia in Paris for a Musicorama, then touring with Claude François. Present for Jean-Marie Périer's "photo du siècle" in 1966, Monty composed for other artists such as Sheila, France Gall, Dalida, Éric Charden, Jeane Manson, Sylvie Vartan, Frank Alamo, Eddy Mitchell and Petula Cark. He scored further hits at the start of the following decade with "La Fête au village" (1970) and "Brasilia " (1971), for Carrère, and composed the music for Michel Drach's film Les Violons du bal (1974), before devoting himself to production and his own label, which in 1976 released the 45-turn single in support of the Saint-Étienne soccer team, ahead of the European Champion Clubs' Cup final. Credited to Les Supporters, the song "Allez les Verts" was a major hit and became the club's official anthem. Monty then went into exile in the United States, where he produced Serge Ponsar's disco album and worked for Warner Bros. Back in France, he took part in the Génération âge tendre tour, and that same year, 2013, performed "Allez les Verts" at the Stade de France during the League Cup final. In 2017, his autobiography Ma vie en vert, du showbiz au chaudron was published.
