JELEEL!

Jeleel Yussuf, better known as rapper and producer Jeleel, made his debut in the late 2010s, utilizing his powerful vocals, Auto-Tune, and "hyper rap" beats to deliver an electronically driven take on the genre. His explosive social media output and larger-than-life persona helped propel breakout single “DIVE IN!” to viral success on video platform TikTok, bringing his booming sound to an audience of over 50 million. Born in Los Angeles, California, Jeleel began his career during the late 2010s, releasing a prolific 11 singles through 2017 and 2018. Though rough around the edges, these early tracks began to form the core of Jeleel's sound: his vigorous, Auto-Tuned vocals were matched with bassy, proto-"rage beat" instrumentals, adding an electronic, fast-paced edge to his trap sonics. Amid struggles with homelessness, the rapper issued a debut mixtape (Angel from Heaven, 2019), which proved an inventive, hyperpop-influenced coalescence of the musician’s ideas thus far. Though enjoying increasing success in the underground with 2020’s Generation Z EP, Jeleel truly broke out due to his social media presence. Through video-based app TikTok, the rapper built an image around big stunts, big muscles, and even bigger energy; his explosive, charismatic persona soon racked up millions of views for his video content, and began directing greater attention toward his music. This culminated in 2021 with the single “DIVE IN!” -- which trended on TikTok due to the rapper’s relentless promotion, Jeleel’s breakout single was an infectious example of his signature sound and soon racked up over 50 million streams online. Invigorated by this success, he moved into 2022 with the explosive “RAIN ON YOU!” and pitched-up “JULY!” before issuing the two-track single “CLUBHOUSE/UNCIVILIZED!” in June that year.
