I See Stars
I See Stars are a hardcore band who made their debut in 2005 with a hybrid style drawing from both screamo and electronica. Founded in Warren, Michigan, the band features Devin Oliver (clean vocals), Andrew Oliver (unclean vocals, keys, programming, percussion), Brent Allen (guitars), and Jeff Valentine (bass). I See Stars released an EP, Green Light Go (2006), and an assortment of demo recordings prior to signing a record contract with Sumerian Records in 2008. In collaboration with producers Cameron Mizzell and James Paul Wisner -- whose credits include Paramore, Dashboard Confessional, and New Found Glory -- I See Stars made their full-length album debut in 2009 with 3-D. The album featured a more post-hardcore sound, not yet incorporating the digital dance elements that defined later albums. Featuring Bizzy Bone on "Sing This!," 3-D reached number 176 on the Billboard 200. Two years later, after a couple lineup changes, the band returned with The End of the World Party, a darker, electronicore affair. Digital Renegade kept the hardcore dance party going in 2012, inviting Danny Worsnop (ex-Asking Alexandria) and Cassadee Pope (ex-Hey Monday) to the soiree. Instrumental and remix versions of the album were also released. 2013's New Demons chopped the I See Stars sound with an electronic trap music bounce. It peaked at number 28 on the Billboard 200, making it the band's highest-charting release to date. A pair of remix albums arrived in 2015. The first was a reinterpretation of material on New Demons, while a second, titled Phases, reimagined I See Stars favorites as acoustic/orchestral numbers. It also included covers of hits by Daughter, Disclosure, and Hozier. Their fifth album, Treehouse (Sumerian), was released in the summer of 2016. The genre-blurring LP debuted in the Top 10 of the Hard Rock, Alternative, and Independent charts. Pastoral reimaginings of seven Treehouse songs appeared in early 2018 on Treehouse (Acoustic).
