Luke
Formed in 1998, Luke is one of the few French rock bands to have managed to break through to the mainstream in the early 2000s. With compositions halfway between the edgy pop of Placebo and the fevered rock of Noir Désir, the band's success probably owes as much to its catchy compositions as to the void left by Bertrand Cantat's band, following his incarceration. With singles like "La Sentinelle", "Soledad" and "La Terre ferme", Luke has established itself as one of the most popular representatives of French pop rock at the start of the millennium. After three years in the studio, Thomas Boulard's band returned to the forefront with D'Autre Part in February 2010. But it would be another five long years before they made a name for themselves again with Pornographie, an album steeped in the ills of their time.
