A Little Bit Longer steunde op een sterke liedbasis, maar Lines, Vines and Trying Times lijkt wel van binnenuit opgebouwd, met concepten in plaats van melodieën als uitgangspunt, en die concepten leiden de Brothers Jonas verder weg van de leuke, bruisende popnummers.
