Whistlefritz

Whistlefritz specialize in teaching French and Spanish to children through song and language immersion. Established in 2006, they were winning awards for Spanish-language releases like ¡A Bailar! Let's Dance! by 2008, and they branched into French with albums including Cha, Cha, Cha: French Learning Songs in the early 2010s. Providing music education as well as language skills, merengue, blues, country, and African soukous were among the genres the group represented on 2024's AU ZOO (At the Zoo). With a goal of making learning fun, Whistlefritz was founded in 2006 by composer and multi-instrumentalist Didier Prossaird. Born and raised in France, he is based in Saint Martin, where he also leads the jazz combo Kameleon Beats. Over the years, many other musicians have contributed to the project, among them Marie-Louise Desage, Jorge Anaya, and Ileana Pérez. Whistlefritz's earliest albums were 2008's ¡A Bailar! Let's Dance! and 2010's Cha, Cha, Cha: Spanish Learning Songs, both of which earned multiple awards and seals of approval from parenting and educational organizations. They added French versions of these to their output beginning with 2012's Cha, Cha, Cha: French Learning Songs. With Whistlefritz also releasing videos and educational tools like flashcards, they eventually delivered more audio recordings with 2018's Carnaval (featuring Ileana Pérez on the Spanish version and Rachel Sparrow on the French edition), 2019's ¡SABOR! (featuring Jorge Anaya), and 2020's ¡BUENOS DÍAS! (with Anaya and Pérez). The French-language album AU ZOO (At the Zoo) followed in 2024. Featuring an international swath of musical styles, it included a version of "The Itsy, Bitsy Spider" ("L'araignée Gypsy") alongside original songs like "La Saint Valentin" and the back-to-school-themed "Bonne Rentrée."
