KLP
Using her initials KLP as her recording and performing alias, the multi-talented Kristy Lee Peters is a singer, songwriter, producer, DJ, and radio personality based in Sydney, Australia. Mixing pop, house, and drum'n'bass, she started releasing solo material in 2013, and began a celebrated tenure as the host of Triple J's House Party. She worked with artists like Sharam Jey, Skrillex, and Slumberjack, and released her full-length debut, Giver, in 2019. She earned a platinum certification from the ARIA for the 2020 feelgood anthem "Energy," one of several collaborations with Stace Cadet; the two scored another charting hit with 2021's "People Happy." Remaining an in-demand performer and songwriter, KLP has continued igniting dancefloors with singles like 2023's "Big Emotion" (a collaboration with Tommy Trash).
Peters grew up surrounded by music, as her father owned a recording studio, and was in several bands as a youth. After working with several artists and producers as a featured vocalist, she began releasing her self-produced songs in 2013, ranging from seductive slow jams to bright yet calmly paced dance-pop. Her Revolution EP appeared in April of that year and was quickly followed by an EP of house remixes of the title track. She also worked with What So Not, Pnau, DCUP, and others, and received attention from taste-making DJs such as Diplo. Peters won Australian radio station Triple J's new talent competition Uncovered, and eventually became the host of the station's weekly mix program House Party, spinning a wide array of dance, pop, hip-hop, indie, and the occasional yacht rock oldie. She mixed several compilation CDs associated with the program.
Solo singles "Decide" and "Medicine" appeared in 2014, and she was featured on tracks by Slumberjack, Zimmer, Gold Fields, and many others. She brought her live show to festivals around the globe, including SXSW, Splendour in the Grass, and Field Day. The drum'n'bass-influenced single "Recover" was released in October of 2015, as she worked on writing and producing a second EP. The buoyant single "Air" and a subsequent set of remixes by artists like Hydraulix and Stace Cadet arrived in 2016. Later that year KLP delivered her second EP, Ember, followed in 2017 by a pair of brightly hued singles in "Changes" and "Melt." She was also featured on Boilermakers' track "Warning Signs" and released a very contemporary update of the Easybeats' 1968 song "Good Times." Her 2018 single "Carried Away" featured Melbourne hip-hop duo Milwaukee Banks, and she worked with Sharam Jey on the song "Lost." KLP mixed the second disc of the triple-CD Ministry of Sound set Sessions Rebirth. She also appeared on 2018 albums by Snails and What So Not (featured on the Skrillex collaboration "Goh").
KLP's first album, Giver, appeared in 2019, including songs with Kilian & Jo and Dena Amy. She was featured on Benson's single "Ride Tonight" later in the year. "Energy," a single with Stace Cadet, appeared in 2020 and topped the Australian club tracks chart, later earning an ARIA Award nomination for Best Dance Release. KLP and Stace Cadet recorded a cover of Sia's "Breathe Me" for Triple J in 2021, and additionally released "People Happy," another club hit which was nominated for an ARIA Award. KLP collaborated with drag performer LaLa Ri for the single "Eat the Runway," then released solo tracks "Busy Dancing" and "Can't Handle" in 2022. "Feel the Same" (with SH Gemini) arrived later in the year, and "Big Emotion" (with Tommy Trash) appeared in 2023.
