Bradford Alexander Mehldau was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on August 23, 1970. Raised by an adoptive family, he studied piano from the age of six and worked on classical repertoire until the age of 14. Then, at the age 18, he discovered rock and jazz. Mehldau clearly still has a taste for these genres today and continues to broaden both his and the genres...

About Playlist
Bradford Alexander Mehldau was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on August 23, 1970. Raised by an adoptive family, he studied piano from the age of six and worked on classical repertoire until the age of 14. Then, at the age 18, he discovered rock and jazz. Mehldau clearly still has a taste for these genres today and continues to broaden both his and the genres horizons. It wasn't long before his talent was recognized and he first distinguished himself by winning a prize at the famous Berklee College of Music in Boston. Expressing himself usually in a trio or solo, the art of this pianist, full of lyricism and emotion, shows a rich and complex musical personality. He is first and foremost an improviser, cherishing risk-taking, spontaneity and interaction with the other members of his trio or those of the many orchestras with whom he has collaborated. But the improviser also has a deep fascination for the architecture of melody. As a composer, he sometimes draws inspiration from the formal structures of his music. Over the years, his work has won him a wide audience. Brad Mehldau is one of the major artists of the last twenty years, a reference for many pianists who see him as one of the major path finders among many other pioneers, from Bill Evans to Keith Jarrett.
