A smart speaker works independently. Unlike traditional speaker pairs with separate left and right channels, this is a single unit that reproduces the entire sound spectrum, making it incredibly easy to set up and integrate into any home. All you need is a power outlet, and the speaker can be placed on any shelf or piece of furniture. Convenience is a key factor of their success, which has seen them gradually replace bulky stereo systems.
Smart speakers appeal to users seeking simplicity and quality. Factors like speaker size, driver quality, power output, and features set different models apart, and design is also crucial. Moving away from conventional tower or bookshelf speakers, manufacturers are now exploring unique aesthetics, sometimes incorporating premium finishes and materials previously uncommon in the Hi-Fi world.
The Mobile App: A Key Element in Your Decision
Our selection of the best smart speakers of the year is, of course, subjective. We’ve chosen models we know well that offer advantages over direct competitors. These differences may come from playback features, connectivity, or sound quality, but there’s also another important aspect to consider - how easy is the speaker to use daily?
A smart speaker makes playing music effortless. There’s no need to turn on multiple devices when some models have shortcut buttons and others respond to voice commands. However, you’ll likely interact with the speaker most through its mobile app, especially during the setup process. There isn’t a single “best” app—each manufacturer develops its own, hence why testing the app before purchasing is crucial. You can do this in-store after listening to the speaker to see which app feels most intuitive for long-term use.
